I Am Your Neighbor
I am Your Neighbor is a story of community.
This collection of stories comes from twenty-one people, clients of Chicago’s North Side Common Pantry, a non-profit organization which provides emergency groceries, hot meals, friendship, direction, and community to individuals and families in need.
David R. Brown and Roger Wright, authors of I am Your Neighbor, capture the wonderfully moving stories of some of these neighbors who — through their own words — bring to life the root causes of hunger and economic distress in a way that statistics cannot.
Although our nation’s food pantries and their teams of volunteers provide a great service and work hard each day, we hope to alleviate food insecurity. One of the first steps along that path is to recognize that clients are our neighbors, not anonymous strangers, who are deserving of compassion and understanding.
Most of the inspiration which fuels I am Your Neighbor originates from the lives of those who come to the Common Pantry. This book is also inspired by their neighbors who lack a complete understanding of those in need and the circumstances which bring them to these doors. The people whose words fill the chapters of the book were thrilled to have the opportunity to tell their stories, We hope that all who read I am Your Neighbor will gain a better understanding of neighbors in need and how to be part of helping each other.
100% of all proceeds from book sales will be donated to the Common Pantry to continue their mission of food distribution and expanded services during their Wednesday afternoon “Common Community.”
